A focused 7-unit package from the CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building), built for the QBCC builder—medium rise site supervisor licence. Supervise building work up to 3 storeys, plus non-structural work on any building regardless of class or floor area. The step between low-rise residential and open-class high-rise.
This 7-unit package is drawn from the nationally recognised CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) and delivers the technical qualification QBCC specifies for the builder—medium rise site supervisor licence. Rather than completing the full Diploma, this pathway covers exactly the units QBCC lists for the site supervisor licence type in that class.
The medium rise class is where most Queensland supervisors get stuck. A low-rise licence covers houses, townhouses and Class 2 to 9 Type C buildings up to 2,000m², which is fine until your employer wins a three-storey walk-up, a boutique apartment block or a small commercial building. QBCC's scope for builder—medium rise covers building work on a class 1 or class 10 building, and building work to a maximum of 3 storeys but not including Type A construction on classes 4 to 9 buildings. It also covers non-structural work on a building regardless of the class or gross floor area of that building.
Site supervisors supervise building work as an employee, under their employer's QBCC contractor licence, rather than contracting with clients themselves. For the site supervisor licence type in this class, QBCC lists technical qualifications only — the experience, referee and financial requirements that apply to a contractor licence do not appear against the site supervisor type. Completing these units is the substantive step toward applying.
The seven units are all core units of CPC50220, so every one of them carries full credit if you go on to complete the whole Diploma later — the technical qualification for a builder—medium rise contractor licence. Delivery is 100% online and self-paced, built around supervisors who cannot leave an active site to study.
QBCC lists these seven units of competency for the builder—medium rise site supervisor licence. All seven are core units of CPC50220, so all seven carry full credit toward the complete Diploma:
Queensland supervisors and experienced tradespeople ready to supervise beyond the low-rise limits into three-storey residential and commercial work.
Current low-rise supervisors whose employer has started winning three-storey walk-ups and boutique apartment work.
Experienced workers already coordinating trades on multi-residential sites who need formal credentials to match.
CPC40120 graduates ready to step up to Diploma-level units and a wider supervision scope.
Carpenters, bricklayers and blocklayers moving from the tools into formal medium-rise supervision.
Workers for commercial builders on Type B and Type C projects who need a licence covering that scope.
This site supervisor package is drawn from the CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building). This overview covers what the full qualification involves and how its units apply to supervising medium-rise projects.
