Course Overview
What is the Low-Rise Site Supervisor Qualification?
This 10-unit package is drawn from the nationally recognised CPC40120 Certificate IV in Building and Construction. QBCC lists these 10 units against the QBCC Low-Rise Site Supervisor licence, so the package covers the exact units QBCC names and nothing else. The full Certificate IV is 19 units.
The scope is the bread and butter of Queensland building. Class 1 and class 10 buildings: detached houses, duplexes, granny flats, sheds, garages and carports. Classes 2 to 9 Type C buildings with a gross floor area not exceeding 2,000m²: townhouse rows, small unit blocks, a suburban shop, a childcare centre or a small office fit-out. QBCC also includes non-structural work on any building regardless of class or size. What sits outside is height and fire rating. Type A and Type B construction, and anything past 2,000m² in classes 2 to 9, belong to the medium-rise and open classes.
A site supervisor is an employee. You supervise the day-to-day work under your employer's QBCC contractor licence and you do not sign contracts with clients. For a leading hand on a volume-builder site that is the natural step up. You already sequence the trades, call the inspections and chase the defects. The licence puts your name against that responsibility, and it skips the financial and insurance requirements a contractor licence carries.
Completing the 10 units gives you the technical qualification for the licence application. The Site Supervisor licence has no minimum experience requirement, so the units are the substantive step. Every unit sits inside CPC40120 and carries full credit if you go on to the complete Certificate IV, or step up to medium-rise or open-class supervision later. Delivery is 100% online and self-paced, around an active site.
