Construction Site Foreman: What They Do and How to Become One

Construction site foremen are responsible for overseeing all aspects of a construction project, from planning to execution. They work with contractors and subcontractors to make sure that the project is completed on time and within budget. In order to become a site foreman, you will need to have experience in the construction industry and receive proper training. In this blog post, we will discuss what the job of a site foreman entails and how you can become one!

What is a construction site foreman?

A foreman is responsible for coordinating the work of all contractors and subcontractors on a construction project. This includes ensuring that everyone is working to the same schedule and that the project is completed on time and ensuring safety on the construction site by making sure that all workers are following proper safety procedures.There are different types of foremen such as electrician, plumbing and carpentry, however these positions require experience in that particular trade. 

 

A construction foreman typically has several years of experience working in the construction industry. In order to become a foreman, you will need to receive proper training. This can be obtained through a combination of on-the-job training and by completing a Diploma of Building & Construction (Management). 

What are the responsibilities of a Construction foreman?

  • Coordinate the work of all contractors and subcontractors
  • Ensure that everyone is working to the same schedule
  • Make sure that the project is completed on time
  • Be responsible for safety on the construction site
  • Make sure that all workers are following proper safety procedures.

What skills does a foreman need to have?

  • Strong communication and organizational skills (plus the manner to deal with difficult personalities)
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure environment and troubleshoot problems as they arise
  • Ensuring that the work is completed on time and within budget.
  • Ability to keep track of and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
